Calibration of GEO 600 for the S1 science run

چکیده
Abstract In 2002, the interferometric gravitational wave detector GEO 600 took part in a coincident science run (S1) with other detectors world-wide. When completed, GEO will employ a dual-recycling scheme which will allow its peak sensitivity to be tuned over a range of frequencies in the detection band. Still in the commissioning phase, GEO was operated as a power-recycled Michelson for the duration of S1. The accurate calibration of the sensitivity of GEO to gravitational waves is a critical step in preparing GEO data for exchange with other detectors forming a world-wide detector network. An online calibration scheme has been developed to perform real-time calibration of the powerrecycled GEO detector. This scheme will later be extended to cover the more complex case of the dual-recycled interferometer in which multiple output signals will need to be combined to optimally recover a calibrated strain channel. This report presents an outline of the calibration scheme that was used during S1. Also presented are results of detector characterization work that arises naturally from the calibration work.

The status of GEO 600
The GEO 600 gravitational wave detector located near Hannover in Germany is part of the LSC network of gravitational wave observatories. Since January 2006 the GEO 600 detector has participated in the S5 LSC science run and acquired sensitive and well-characterized science data with a high duty cycle. Until 1 October 2007, 415 days of science data with an average peak sensitivity of better than...

GEO 600 is a dual-recycled interferometric gravitational wave detector which uses advanced optical techniques to achieve its design sensitivity. The peak response of GEO is tunable over a range of frequencies within the detection band of the instrument. The accurate calibration of the detector is an essential step in preparing the data for distribution to the various analysis groups in the comm...
متن کاملPreparing GEO 600 for gravitational wave astronomy—a status report
A number of gravitational wave detectors throughout the world are currently moving from the final stages of commissioning to a more continuous observational mode. Together, these detectors form a global network which will search for gravitational waves from various astrophysical sources, such as continuous wave signals from rotating neutron stars, transient signals from, for example, inspiralli...

GEO 600 is a 600 m arm-length, laser interferometric gravitational wave detector, located about 25 km from Hannover, Germany. Starting in November 2003, GEO 600 took part in a coincident data taking period with other detectors around the world. During this time, GEO 600 acquired three weeks of ‘science quality’ data. These data are currently being processed to search for gravitational wave sign...
